What is your definition of an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV)? An All Terrain Vehicle that will go almost anywhere in any terrain? An All Terrain Vehicle that climbs on and over rocks, or travels on trails to remote places? A vehicle that will run up and down the beach in the summer spraying the surf beneath it tires? This only describes a few of the outdoor activities enjoyed on or in an ATV.
Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia describes an ATV as a “quad, quad bike, three-wheeler, or four-wheeler” and is defined by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as a “vehicle that travels on low-pressure tires, with a seat that is straddled by the operator, along with handlebars for steering control. As the name implies, it is designed to handle a wider variety of terrain than most other vehicles. Although it is a street-legal vehicle in some countries, it is not street legal within most states and provinces of Australia, the United States or Canada”.
Today’s definition of an ATV can be expanded to include a four-wheeler with 2 or 4 seats, a steering wheel, and a seat for each of the occupants. This expands the definition of an ATV making it a more stable design for off-road travel.
The 2013 Jeep® Wrangler can be defined as a off-road and on-road vehicle with 4 seats and a steering wheel qualifying it as an ATV. But, it is much, much more. With four models to choose from they are available with a powerful 3.6L V6 24-Valve VVT engine that delivers 285hp and 260-ld-ft of Torque. A 6-speed transmission for hill climbing or smooth highway driving and the Command-Trac® Shift on the Fly 4WD System including Electronic Stability Control which combines the ABS braking with All-speed Traction Control to ensure you will climb the highest hills, travel to the remote trout streams, picnic and swim on the remote beaches, then return home in heated or air conditioned comfort.
No trailer is required to transport your Jeep to your destination. Simply drive it yourself then convert from on-road to off-road by simply removing the hard or soft top then driving off-road. The Jeep Wrangler is ready to travel when you are. Depending on the model you can select from 16-inch Styled Steel Wheels, 17-inch aluminum, 18-inch Polished Sparkle Silver Wheels, or 17-inch Aluminum Painted Mineral Gray Wheels. Each designed to provide maximum grip and ground control over the roughest terrain.
Two Trail Rated® 4WD systems are available. The “tough-as-nails” Command-Trac® and the “made for the mountains” Rock-Trac® 4WD transfer cases are trail proven and with an overall length of 152.8 inches, a width of 73.7 inches and turning radius of 34.9 inches the narrowest of trails and sharpest turns can be navigated with the same ground hugging efficiency as the smaller ATV vehicles on the market today and with up to 391 miles on a tank of gas making those remote areas more accessible.
Another great feature not available in smaller off-road ATV’s is a fully operational communications system that provides music including Radio, GPS, and an up-link to the Internet. Standard on all of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler’s is the Media Center with CD/DVD/HDD/ Garmin® Navigation/ SiriusXM™ Satellite Radio with a 6.5 inch touchscreen, a 40GB hard drive with a storage capacity up to 6,700 songs. Uconnect® Phone which always has a signal, and Uconnect® Web to stay in touch with friends.
The 2013 Jeep® Wrangler is rated as a SUV, but I rate it as a truly of-road go anywhere, mountain climbing, trail busting, sand digging ATV.
