When driving or parking a vehicle safety should always be first and paramount on the mind of any driver. The most important part of any vehicle should be the safety of its driver and passengers. The family of Dodge, RAM, Chrysler, and Jeep vehicles are committed to safety first. They are engineered to meet the highest quality in safety standards to keep you and your family safe. Often things happen that are not expected, but when they do, control of the situation becomes very important.
Let’s review the safety and driving assistance features that are part of the Chrysler Group LLC’s family of vehicles.
Safety starts before you enter the vehicle. When approaching your vehicle awareness of your surroundings should be on your mind. With the Remote Key less Entry system you can lock or unlock the doors, tailgate, or trunk from a distance of up to 60 feet away providing both convenience and security at your fingertips.
The alarm system deters thieves from breaking in during your absence or if stranded in a remote area will provide that piece of mind while you wait on help to arrive. The Sentry Key® engine immobilizer prevents the engine from starting until identification has been established between the key and the ignition. A small chip embedded in the key identifies the key with the vehicle and allows it to start. Without the proper key inserted in the ignition the engine will not start.
A feature I really like is the Accident Avoidance System. Driving in today’s fast pace traffic requires the drivers up most attention. We are sometimes distracted from the road by an unruly child or something as simple as changing a station on the radio.
We are all aware of driver reaction time. That time it takes for a driver to recognize an accident is about occur and actually applying the brakes. When equipped with the Forward Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation the driver is alerted with both an audible and visual warning. If a collision is imminent the system will automatically engage the brakes lowering reaction time and saving lives and property.
Working along with the Forward Collision Warning system is a network of safety sensors. These include the Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Electronic Roll Mitigation (EMR), Antilock Brake System (ABS), and the All-speed Traction Control all working together with Break Assist to help avoid an accident and maintain control. If towing a trailer the Trailer Sway Control (TSC) will engage all of these systems to control wheel slippage and sway.
Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) monitors the blind spot zones by utilizing sensors in the rear, front, and side of the vehicle. If a vehicle enters the zone an indicator will illuminate in the mirror to warn the driver. It can also be configured to sound an audible alert and mute the radio.
Now that you have arrived safely at your destination more safety features become active. Backing up and parking is two causes of accidents. Available are two modern in car camera systems to assist you in parking and backing. The ParkView® Rear Back Up Camera with ParkSense® front and rear assist system assists in parking. Working together they provide a picture of the rear and front of the vehicle along with an audible alarm when moving to close to another object. Parallel parking is now easy.
As many as 10 Air Bags now surround the occupants from all sides. With advanced multistage driver, front-passenger and side-curtain airbags along with standard crush zones in front and side door beams that absorb excess energy and help protect the occupants.
